Soundboks Go review: Party speaker with rechargeable battery

The Danish company Soundboks has made international headlines with its giant party speaker “The New Soundboks”: Now in its third generation, the Bluetooth speaker is considered the loudest mobile speaker in the world.

The Soundboks Go offers a similar performance to its “big brother”, but scores with a much more compact design and is therefore even more mobile in use.

40-hour rechargeable battery for Soundboks Go

The Danish manufacturer guarantees a total of 40 hours of battery life for the Soundboks Go – but only when used at medium volume.

If the Bluetooth speaker is turned up to full power, it still has a battery life of up to ten hours, which is more than sufficient under normal circumstances. The current battery level is indicated by a five-stage LED display.

Another advantage: the built-in battery can even be replaced, so that only a short interruption is necessary if longer parties are planned.

IP65 for outdoor use

The focus here is primarily on outdoor use, which is why it also has IP65 certification.

This means that the speaker is not only protected from dust or sand, but can even be used in the rain without any problems.

Thanks to a fairly high weight of 9.2 kg, the speaker also scores with a particularly stable stand, so that even strong winds pose no danger.

Soundboks Go: 10 inch bass

There is no need to compromise on the sound quality of the Soundboks Go, the technology is reminiscent of the Soundboks Gen 3 for good reason: inside, two Class D amplifiers with an output of 72 watts provide plenty of power.

In addition, there is a 10-inch woofer and a 1-inch tweeter, which together cover the effective frequency range of up to 40 Hertz in the low frequency range and up to 20,000 Hertz in the high frequency range.

Those who also prefer bass-heavy music will be delighted with the built-in SOUNDBOKS bass amplifier.

Compared to the large Soundboks Gen 3, the Go naturally has slightly less pressure and bass.

Bluetooth 5.0 and TeamUP technology

The connection to playback devices is very convenient via the latest Bluetooth 5.0 technology. In addition, a total of five Soundboks speakers can be connected via TeamUP technology and assigned different stereo roles thanks to a sophisticated app.

The SKAA Pro mode, which noticeably reduces the latency between several speakers and thus sustainably improves the sound experience, also stands out here.

Bluetooth and jack input

However, it is a pity that XLR connections have been omitted, which were only added to the big brother with the third generation. At least there is a 3.5 mm jack input.

The free app also offers a real enrichment, as the sound can be further customized as desired and there are even different sound profiles available.

Even a PIN can be selected, which prevents the connection of unwanted playback devices – particularly practical at large parties.

Soundboks Go: My conclusion

Compared to the Soundboks Gen 3 in particular, the Soundboks Go appears much slimmer and can therefore guarantee greater mobility.

A second woofer has been dispensed with and one less amplifier has been installed.

The “little brother” is also available for 300 euros less and still scores with a variety of modern technologies in a much more compact housing.
