Sonos speakers, soundbars and subwoofers are fantastic, but unfortunately not cheap. The devices have also become increasingly expensive in recent years.
However, you can save up to 30% with the Sonos upgrade program. In this article, I explain how you can secure these percentages quickly and easily.
How does Sonos Upgrade work?
The manufacturer Sonos naturally wants to sell as many new models as possible.
This is also worthwhile for us customers: new soundbars or speakers from Sonos have the latest functions and usually sound even better.
Sonos offers an upgrade program so that customers don’t have to keep their old devices in their homes for years.
Initially, it was possible to deactivate old devices via software and send them back to Sonos. There were then corresponding percentages for this.
After huge protests, the program was changed: Now the old Sonos device is no longer deactivated via software but can continue to be used or sold as normal.
To summarize: Any older Sonos model from the list below can generate a one-time upgrade voucher of between 15 and 30 percent. The voucher can then be redeemed directly in the official Sonos store.
Experience with Sonos Upgrade
Is the upgrade program really worth it? I have tested it several times and can say: Yes, definitely.
The discount vouchers can be redeemed not only on individual devices but also on sets. If you want to buy a set consisting of Sonos Arc, Sonos Sub and surround speakers, for example, you can save several hundred euros.
Sample calculation
The home cinema set consisting of the Sonos Arc soundbar, Sonos Sub subwoofer and two Sonos One SL surround speakers costs €2246 from Sonos.
With a 30% discount on this set, the price is only €1575 – a saving of a whopping €674.
Sonos home theater set (Arc, Sub, 2x One SL) | 2246,00 € |
30% upgrade discount | -674,00 € |
Total price | 1575,00 € |
You may also receive the proceeds from the sale of the old appliance, e.g. via eBay or Craigslist.
The discount vouchers can be used on almost all Sonos devices. The only exceptions are products from a limited edition, refurbished products and third-party accessories.
Activate Sonos upgrade
The first step is to check which devices in your system are eligible for an update.
To do this, go to the Sonos upgrade page. If you are not already logged in, log in with your account.
If all devices are supplied with power and entered in your system (i.e. in the app), all models that are eligible for an upgrade will now appear.
You can now simply click to select the relevant products and activate the credit.
You can find all activated and used vouchers on the Offers page. When you buy a new set or device, the voucher will be automatically redeemed at the checkout.

Buy Sonos upgrade voucher
If you search for the relevant words on eBay, you will quickly find what you are looking for: Various people are selling the 15 or 30 percent vouchers there for a few euros.
In general, such a purchase can be worthwhile, but I generally advise against it.
Disadvantages of the Sonos upgrade program
Are there any disadvantages to the Sonos upgrade program? Having ordered several times with these credits, I can say: No, there are no disadvantages.
The program is simply a marketing move by Sonos to sell more and newer devices.
Nothing changes on a Sonos speaker when you activate or redeem the credit. It can continue to be used as part of the system as usual. You also do not have to exchange it to participate in this program.
