Review: Flexson stand for Sonos One

There’s no question that Sonos speakers sound great. But what is often overlooked: The exact position of the speakers plays a major role in the sound.

As a general rule, speakers should always be positioned at head height – apart from the subwoofer.

If you want to use the Sonos One as surround speakers (rear) with a soundbar in the home theater, they should be placed behind the seating position at head height.

Various wall mounts and stands are available to position the Sonos One, One SL or Play:1 perfectly.

I have tried out the stands from Flexson and reveal in the test whether the investment is worthwhile.

Flexson stand for Sonos One

The simplest and cheapest model from Flexson are the normal stands for Sonos One.

The stands are not only suitable for Sonos One but also for the One SL (without voice control) and the Play:1 (predecessor model).

It is noticeable as soon as you carry the package: The feet are quite heavy. The reason: the base plates appear to be made of metal or cast iron and look very high quality.

Thanks to the instructions, assembly is quite quick and can be completed in 15 minutes, even for inexperienced screwdrivers. All tools such as Allen keys and wrenches are included.

Positive: Extension cables are included with the Flexson stands. The normal power cable is routed through the stand and the extension cable goes from the stand to the socket.

Two different screw-on feet are supplied for the base plate: Rubberized plastic feet for hard floors and metal spikes for carpeted floors.

At the end, you plug the Sonos One into the top of the bracket. This is a little fiddly because the power plug comes into the speaker from below, but it’s doable.

The speaker is stable on the stand, but is not fixed with screws or similar, as the Sonos One does not have a thread for this.

After positioning the feet to the right and left of the sofa, the speakers must be calibrated again via TruePlay in the Sonos app.

The sound experience during a movie was much better than before, when the speakers were still on shelves and tables at different distances.

Height-adjustable stand for Sonos One

The floor stands from Flexson are also available for the Sonos One as a height-adjustable version: slightly more expensive but in my opinion much better.

In my case, I wanted the speakers at head height on a low lounge sofa. I couldn’t get that low with the classic stands.

But these stands also make sense for other applications: if the room is mainly occupied by people standing and not sitting, a higher position definitely makes sense, e.g. in galleries, bars or stores.

At the lowest level, the stand is 83.9 cm high, at the highest level it is 131.4 cm high. Assembly is just as simple as with the standard version: the base plates are screwed to the stand and bracket and the cable is pulled through the stand.

Unlike the normal stand, this version does not come with a power extension cable. This is a shame, as you will need this in most cases, depending on the height set.

The power cable cannot be stowed away in the frame as well as with the standard stand – it simply does not hold as well in the joint. A minor detail, but not normally noticeable.

After assembly, the height can be adjusted using a small screw on the back. This looks delicate, but holds firmly.

The height-adjustable feet from Flexson are a little more expensive, but I would definitely prefer them: the height can be adjusted continuously and you have more flexibility in finding the optimum position.

The rods are slightly thicker in this version, but this is hardly noticeable at first glance.

Flexson premium stand for Sonos One

In addition to the models tested above, there is also a premium stand from Flexson. What makes it special: In addition to materials such as metal and glass, the stand has an elegant wooden element on the frame.

The wood is English oak in the white version and American walnut in the black version.
